Half the fun of White Pocket was just getting there. Without 4×4 and high clearance, we would have been stuck in the deep sand. I’d recommend a shovel, a good map and some extra fuel just in case. Let me know if you need detailed directions–I’d be happy to provide them for you.
White Pocket is amazing! It makes you think big–lots of “oohs and ahhs,” and questions of how on earth things were formed that way. It’s a fun place to explore and has a lot of little surprises. For instance, not too far away on its north east corner I stumbled upon some Indian rock art high up on some Navajo sandstone nearby a cave. White Pocket itself is as impressive a geological gem I’ve ever seen.
